Proclade International at the United Nations

Fr Dominic Rohan, cmf, one of our Claretian representatives working at United Nations headquarters in New York sends this news.

Proclade International (Claretian Promotion for Development) co-sponsored a side event at the United Nations with Permanent Observer Mission of Holy See and few other Religious Organizations on Tuesday 30th January. This was organized in connection with the 56th session of the Commission for Social Development.

In the absence of Archbishop Auza, who was out of the country His Excellency Msgr. Tomasz Grysa, the First Secretary gave the opening remarks. Ms. Marina El Khoury of Franciscan International was the facilitator. Sr. Justine Gitanjali of Congregation of St. Joseph was the main organizer of the event.

The Claretians were recognized at the United Nations as NGO Consultant Member at the Department of Public Information (DPI) on March of 2011 and at the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) on April of 2017.

These statutes regulates “ad intra” the presence of the Claretians at the UN. For the UN, the statutes of “Proclade Internazionale NGO” applies.

2. Vision
     The Claretians, “sharing the hopes and joys, the sorrows and trials of the people, especially those of the poor, we readily offer to join efforts with all who are striving to transform the world according to God’s plan.” (Constitutions 46).

3. Mission
     Collaborating with others in the care of the Earth and all its lives, the Claretians, on behalf of their grassroots, strive to advocate at UN on migrants, indigenous people, peace – reconciliation, and ecological issues; with such focus, they are committed to cooperate with UN in the achievement at the grassroots level of the sustainable development goals.
